EBay has reached a class action lawsuit settlement over claims that the company did not list Featured Plus! items on the top of search pages. Those people who used eBay’s Featured Plus service during the time period of Jan 23, 2008 to Feb 4, 2013 to upgrade their listed item(s), can claim a refund from the eBay Featured Plus Class Action Settlement. The company agreed to pay a $4.75 million to resolve the litigation.
Plaintiffs filed the lawsuit against eBay in the United States District Court. Plaintiffs claimed that they paid $39.95 for eBay's Featured Plus service that shows ads of subscribers on the top of the search page, but this service was non-functional much of the time. The company continued to promote the service and charged users for it even after the service stopped working completely.
The company will pay $4.75 million settlement fund in two time periods: Class Members who paid for the service between January 23, 2008 and September 28, 2009 as well as Class Members who paid after September 28, 2009. Class Members who paid during Time Period 1 will get 1.8% of what they paid for the service, while Class Members who paid during Time Period 2 will get 16% of what they paid.
Active eBay Accounts: Those who have an active eBay account, don’t have to do anything. The compensation amount will be credited automatically to their existing eBay account.
Check Option is also available for an active eBay account class members, if their credit is more than $1.00. They can request a check by providing their name and address at secure.dahl-inc.com/customled/operations/update.
Inactive eBay Accounts: Those who have an inactive eBay account will get the compensation amount via check. The company will send a check to their current address information on the account. Class Members can update their account information before March 20, 2014 at secure.dahl-inc.com.
Closed eBay Accounts: Those who have Closed eBay Account, need to provide current address information. They can update their account at secure.dahl-inc.com before March 20, 2014.
