Bank of America has agreed to settle a lawsuit over force-placed insurance policies. In the lawsuit, plaintiffs alleged that Bank of America and Countrywide force-placed insurance on homeowner’s property in such a way that the premiums charged for these policies were excessive. All those who had home equity loans, mortgage loans, or home equity lines of credit from Bank of America or Countrywide Home Loans, and were charged a premium for force-placed insurance coverage issued by Newport Insurance Company, Balboa Insurance Company, QBE Insurance Corporation, Meritplan Insurance Company, QBE Specialty Insurance Company, Praetorian Insurance Company, or one of their affiliates with in the class period are eligible Class Members.
Each Settlement Class Member must submit a valid and timely claim form by January 27, 2015 to receive a payment or a credit towards what they owe. However, the actual amount that each class member will receive will depend on things like in which Bank of America portfolio their loan is, the issue date of LPI policy, the amount charged for LPI policy or policies, etc.
